James Aiden Kay MA trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance gaining a first-class honours degree in Contemporary Dance. During his time there, he worked with Kerry Nicholls, Lizzie Kew-Ross, Rika Okamoto and Gary Lambert. James then toured around the UK and Europe performing with EDGE, the postgraduate dance company of London Contemporary Dance School. He performed repertoire from Trisha Brown and Yael Flexer and new works by Ben Wright, Idan Cohen, Joe Moran, Dog Kennel Hill Project and Mariana Tengner Barros.


James has since performed at the Royal Opera House, Hackney Empire, the Royal Albert Hall for BBC Proms and in new creations for Hack Ballet, IJAD Dance Company, Summit Dance Theatre in Switzerland, Canada and the UK, Eldarin Yeong Studio in Taiwan and the UK, Slot Machine Theatre, Classic Ballet UKPurefeo in Malta and the UK and The Kosh filmed by ITV & BBC News. James has danced for the Cohan Collective on three residences and has been in rehearsal for Robert Cohan's new work Communion with Yorke Dance Project.


As a community dance teacher, James works regularly for The Place and BalletBoyz and is the director of BalletBoyz Youth Company.


James has an MA (passed with distinction) from London Contemporary Dance School, focusing on how to make contemporary dance accessible to a wider audience.


​As Artistic Co-Director of Traceworks Dance, James is thoroughly excited about the possibilities of the company.
