Julian Lewis MA graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2013 with a first-class honours degree in Contemporary Dance. His performing career then began as a member of EDGE, the postgraduate dance company of London Contemporary Dance School. During this year, he performed in several works by renowned choreographers including Trisha Brown, Ben Wright and Yael Flexer at a variety of venues across the UK, Italy, Portugal, Austria and Israel. As an Edge dancer, Julian also performed at Dance Umbrella 2013 with Dog Kennel Hill Project.

Julian has since performed on tour across the UK in several works as a company dancer for Wales-based Ffin Dance. Julian is also rehearsal & class co-ordinator for Ffin Dance, rehearsal directing the professional company and taking an active role in education & outreach projects. Julian has also performed for Cascade Dance TheatrePinot! The Musical, Ruth Jones & Eve Harrison as well as many other projects at the Royal Opera House, The PlaceRoyal Albert Hall for BBC Proms, London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony, Southbank Centre, The Old Vic Tunnels and Hackney Empire.

As a community dance teacher, Julian works regularly for The PlaceTrinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and DanceDa Silva Pearce School of Performing Arts and is artistic director of B40 Youth Dance Company for Greenwich Leisure Limited.

Julian recently returned to London Contemporary Dance School to complete his masters degree, specialising in rehearsal direction. As part of this, he fulfilled the role of rehearsal director on Celebration Event - a project commemorating Merce Cunningham's Centennial staged by Jeannie Steele, performed by final-year undergraduates.


In September 2015, Julian founded Traceworks Dance as a platform to explore his choreographic ideas further, collaborate with other artists and to share new dance works with the wider community.
