James Aiden Kay

James Aiden Kay is a dance artist, teacher and co-director of Traceworks Dance. He trained at Trinity Laban gaining a first-class honours degree in Contemporary Dance in 2013. James then toured around the UK and Europe performing with EDGE, the postgraduate dance company of London Contemporary Dance School.

James has extensive experience as a performer and choreographer touring around the world for numerous projects and companies at prestigious venues including the Royal Opera House, Hackney Empire, Wilton’s Music Hall and the Royal Albert Hall for BBC Proms. He has performed in new creations for Hack Ballet, IJAD Dance Company, Summit Dance Theatre in Switzerland, Canada and the UK, Eldarin Yeong Studio in Taiwan and the UK, Slot Machine Theatre, Classic Ballet UK, Purefeo in Malta and the UK and The Kosh filmed by ITV & BBC News. James has danced for the Cohan Collective on three residencies and was in rehearsal for Robert Cohan's work Communion with Yorke Dance Project.

As a community dance leader, James has directed the BalletBoyz Youth Company and teaches regularly for The Place, where he directs Scatter - The Place’s resident adult dance company. James also has an MA (passed with distinction) from London Contemporary Dance School, where he researched how to make contemporary dance accessible to a wider audience.

As the co-director of Traceworks Dance, James has performed, choreographed and produced a range of professional projects for the company. He also leads the Traceworks Youth Dance Programme in Kingston.
